Moretonhampstead Primary School

PE

At Moretonhampstead Primary School, Physical Education is a vital part of our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. Rooted in our school values and aligned with The Link Academy Trust's values of Collaboration, Curiosity and Belonging, our PE curriculum develops confident, physically literate learners who understand the importance of healthy, active lives.
We teach PE through fundamental concepts rather than solely sport-specific topics, ensuring breadth of learning and strong foundations in physical literacy. By prioritising core movement patterns and object control, we equip pupils with the essential building docks upon which a wide range of sports and physical activities are based. As children progress school, they build on these foundations, developing the skills, knowledge and confidence to appl y their learning across different sports and contexts. In doing so, they grow in resilience, teamwork and self-belief, preparing them for lifelong participation in physical activity beyond Moretonhampstead.

Intent
Moretonhampstead Primary School's PE curriculum has been created and designed to inspire children to be invested about their future as healthy active learners. We intend to nurture confident, innovative thinkers who approach sports and activities with creativity and who understand the importance of Physical Education.
Using the Trust wide bespoke two year rolling PE curriculum, we aim to ensure pupils:
• Have a strong focus on developing both physical skills and knowledge.
• Are able to think creatively to personally impact their PE learning through structured lessons.
• Develop and progress their physical skills and knowledge across each year group.
• Have a deep interest and knowledge of sports and activities both locally and globally.
• Empower and prepare all children for lifetime of physical activity beyond primary school.

Implementation
At Moretonhampstead Primary, we deliver Physical Education through the PE Teams bespoke schemes of work. The schemes have been created and designed to offer a well-sequenced, progressive curriculum that builds on prior learning through a concept curriculum model. This ensures that skills and knowledge are revisited and deepened year after year. The curriculum is structured across four core stages:
• EYFS - Fundamental skills, the building blocks of literacy
• KSI — Key Concepts, such as control and striking
• Lower KS2 — Sports skills taught through concepts
• Upper KS2 - Sport specific skills, tactics, gameplay and analysis
In addition, the schemes have a clear progression of concepts, skills and knowledge within these four stages across each year group which children will build upon and developed year on year.
Beyond the school setting, we enrich our Physical Education through:
• Being part of the local secondary schools Primary Sports Partnership scheme.
• Attending and competing in our Trust wide PE Festivals.
• Annually having the opportunity to experience outdoor and adventurous activities.
• Experiencing a wide range of PE enrichment from beyond our school.

Impact
We expect that the impact of providing high-quality PE lessons in school is that children at Moretonhampstead will be equipped with the core skills and knowledge to thrive and progress in different sports and physical activities.
As a result of our PE curriculum, pupils will:
• EYES — Have access to high quality PE lessons to start developing their induvial body and object control.
• KSI — Cement and progress their body and control including catching throwing and striking.
• KS2 - Expand and master their body and object control.
Ultimately, children will leave Moretonhampstead Primary fully equipped to succeed in PE at Key Stage 3 and beyond.
